And the winners are in for GamesJamKanobu

I wrote about GamesJamKanobu before – it’s basically a local version of IGF, where indie games compete for attention and some are awarded with money prizes. So, winners were finally selected in three categories and here they are.

Disclaimer: I’ve voted in design document category.

Best design document: Evolution.

Evolution sounds a bit like Black & White with RPG system and a bit of Spore mixed with From Dust. Ambitious to say the least.

Selenium

Best concept art: Selenium.

I worked with Mikhail Rakhmatullin for two years and he totally deserves this award.

Maze

Best playable prototype: Maze.

I still wish creators would finish 5734L3R first.

Video Hero Story

Grand Prize: Video Hero Story

For some reason I’m a playable character in this game, so I think it deserves its victory.

Well i can’t quite understand the whole reason of the jam. If it was organized to inspire indie or beginner developers, so why are professionals there to take all the prizes? If it was organized to do more games, so will

organizers oversee and push this projects toward release?

    • http://galyonkin.com/ Sergey Galyonkin

It’s not a Jam, it’s a classic Festival. I guess they’ve kept Games Jam name because of domain :)

Think of it as IGF Russia and everything will make sense. BTW, not everyone there is a professional.

      • Пётр Поросятов

In SOVIET ЯUSSIA “gamesjam” is never a “jam”. Right.

Also, i have no idea what IGF is.

Pixel art again. Oh, God, why?!

    • Пётр Поросятов

It is much better than lo-fi not pixel-art. Check freshly released escape goat two and compare it to the first one.

  • http://gamejam.ru/ Svyatoslav Cherkasov

Yes! We knew that drawing Steven Seagal as Galyonkin was the right way to win! :)

    • http://galyonkin.com/ Sergey Galyonkin

      That’s a recipe for success!

      • Sergey Krylov

        Steven Galyonkin!

  • Пётр Поросятов

So, what’s the fuss about stealer? Yeah trailer looks pretty splendid, but what about mechanics or plot?

    • http://galyonkin.com/ Sergey Galyonkin

Plot is usual “bad future, cyberpunk, totalitarian government, bla-bla-bla”. But gameplay looks pretty neat, all the glitches are actually affecting your game flow.

      • Алексей Петров

Do you mention you see any real gameplay and there was more than just trailer?

“bad future, cyberpunk, totalitarian government, bla-bla-bla” – если пользоваться общими определениями, то я бы предложил такую комбинацию “unknown time and place, xeno-world with robots”.

        • Dmitriy Parfenov

Tsutomu Nihei`s “BLAME!”, but as a game? That sounds gorgeous!

I hope that one day you`ll be able to release it.

          • dd.xn--i1

            Maybe)) I love “Blame!” and Nihei’s art/manga.

  • Sergey Krylov

    What about next GamesJamKanobu?:)

    • http://gamejam.ru/ Svyatoslav Cherkasov

      or GamesJamGalyonkin ?

    • http://galyonkin.com/ Sergey Galyonkin

There is going to be GamesJamGAMM in April, but this time it’s going to be actual 48 hours jam.

As for GJK, I hope it will become kind of annual event.
